A simpler characterization of a spectral lower bound on the clique number

چکیده
Given a simple, undirected graph G, Budinich [Discrete Applied Mathematics, 127 (2003), 535 – 543] proposed a lower bound on the clique number of G by combining the quadratic programming formulation of the clique number due to Motzkin and Straus (1965) with the spectral decomposition of the adjacency matrix of G. This lower bound improves the previously known spectral lower bounds on the clique number that rely on the Motzkin-Straus formulation. In this paper, we give a simpler, alternative characterization of this lower bound. For regular graphs, this simpler characterization allows us to obtain a simple, closed-form expression of this lower bound as a function of the positive eigenvalues of the adjacency matrix. Our computational results shed light on the quality of this lower bound in comparison with the other spectral lower bounds on the clique number.

Common Neighborhood Graph
Let G be a simple graph with vertex set {v1, v2, … , vn}. The common neighborhood graph of G, denoted by con(G), is a graph with vertex set {v1, v2, … , vn}, in which two vertices are adjacent if and only if they have at least one common neighbor in the graph G. In this paper, we compute the common neighborhood of some composite graphs. In continue, we investigate the relation between hamiltoni...
متن کاملLower bounds on the signed (total) $k$-domination number
Let $G$ be a graph with vertex set $V(G)$. For any integer $kge 1$, a signed (total) $k$-dominating functionis a function $f: V(G) rightarrow { -1, 1}$ satisfying $sum_{xin N[v]}f(x)ge k$ ($sum_{xin N(v)}f(x)ge k$)for every $vin V(G)$, where $N(v)$ is the neighborhood of $v$ and $N[v]=N(v)cup{v}$. The minimum of the values$sum_{vin V(G)}f(v)$, taken over all signed (total) $k$-dominating functi...
متن کاملA New Spectral Bound on the Clique Number of Graphs
Many computer vision and patter recognition problems are intimately related to the maximum clique problem. Due to the intractability of this problem, besides the development of heuristics, a research direction consists in trying to find good bounds on the clique number of graphs. This paper introduces a new spectral upper bound on the clique number of graphs, which is obtained by exploiting an ...
متن کاملA note on the bounds of Laplacian-energy-like-invariant
The Laplacian-energy-like of a simple connected graph G is defined as LEL:=LEL(G)=∑_(i=1)^n√(μ_i ), Where μ_1 (G)≥μ_2 (G)≥⋯≥μ_n (G)=0 are the Laplacian eigenvalues of the graph G. Some upper and lower bounds for LEL are presented in this note. Moreover, throughout this work, some results related to lower bound of spectral radius of graph are obtained using the term of ΔG as the num...
متن کاملA (forgotten) Upper Bound for the Spectral Radius of a Graph
The best degree-based upper bound for the spectral radius is due to Liu and Weng. This paper begins by demonstrating that a (forgotten) upper bound for the spectral radius dating from 1983 is equivalent to their much more recent bound. This bound is then used to compare lower bounds for the clique number. A series of line graph degree-based upper bounds for the Q-index is then proposed and comp...
